Dispelling beauty notions through art and makeup with a series of works by a selection of talents from Instagram.
The artists behind
@wendysworld_xox,
@makeupbrutalism and
@luciphyrr, who created a portfolio of images for Gucci Beauty, draw attention to the role of self-expression and art in the makeup scene.
“In a world where Black people are still fighting for equality, self-expression gives people the power and freedom to confidently stand up for what is right in a way that can't be controlled,” said Wendy from @wendysworld_xox who used the new lip liners combining different shades to create unexpected looks. Eszter Magyar from @makeupbrutalism explains: “Makeup can be a social pressure or a fun habit. It can help you belong or separate - it is only a question of your perspective.” Ester, who defines herself as a makeup activist, also addressed the connection between makeup and showing rather than hiding one’s true self.
For Tania @luciphyrr, the message of her work lies in challenging beauty norms and makeup as an art form. “My goal isn’t to make myself look attractive, but to make my concepts come to life. I also like to communicate that unconventional and editorial makeup can work on every eye shape and every face.”
