Jehnny Beth moves across creative fields with vigour.
She’s the frontwoman of Savages, an intense all-female London postpunk band, and acts in movies such as the recent ‘An Impossible Love’. The musician—who walked Gucci’s Cruise 2017 fashion show in Florence—invites the viewers into her life on and off stage for #GucciGig in a series of instant images shot by Savages producer Johnny Hostile featuring Gucci Eyewear.
Jehnny is always in movement, but the photographs freeze her in energy in spontaneous moments. She’s backstage, wearing black leather and Gucci sunglasses with green python trimmed on the tops and temples, and aviators with degrade lenses.
The pair of artists collaborate in other ways, too. Together they run the independent record label Pop Noire, intended to channel their own uncompromising DIY ethics. Recently they also worked together on the soundtrack to XY Chelsea, the forthcoming documentary on the life and career of Chelsea Manning.
The soundtrack is led by the song ‘Let It Out’, which the pair describe as being inspired by “a great moment of human bravery that can inspire anyone in this world to go beyond their own fear.” It comes as an important reminder of the power that music can have to inspire and to say something radical about how we live today. — Ana Kinsella
