The Jackie bag embodied the jetsetter of Gucci’s reign in the 60s and 70s.

First created in 1961, the bag was redesigned throughout the following decades. Alessandro Michele first presented his version of the handbag, the Jackie 1961, for the men’s Fall Winter 2020 fashion show. Resized in mini, small and medium versions, worn by both men and women in diverse looks: tailoring, grunge and clothes with shrunken proportions, the House’s recognizable bag took on an entirely new character. The creative director imbued the Jackie 1961 with a new relevance for the contemporary. Sourcing a vintage Jackie bag design from his own archive, Alessandro Michele changed its look by proposing it in a mini size, with a minimal silhouette. The bag’s clean lines focus attention on the unique piston closure and the leather’s color, which, besides traditional handbag shades of black, white, and GG supreme canvas, also came in candy hues of light blue, lilac and soft pink.
The longer removable strap— which Alessandro Michele replicated from his own vintage piece—also lends the Jackie 1961 its new changeable personality. Transcending its jetsetter past, the new Jackie’s beauty and practicality is designed for everyone in different life moments: for a young woman’s day out, a guy riding his bicycle in the city, a theatergoer attending the opera. The Jackie 1961 flies above traditional accessory classifications with its non-binary attitude, versatile size and flexible styling possibilities. The Jackie 1961 joins the Dionysus, the Marmont and the Horsebit 1955 as a Beloved Line of the House.
