Palazzo Delle Scintille

Alessandro Michele’s first men’s collection—Fall Winter 2015—stepped out onto a runway that resembled an underground metro station.

Five years later, and the Gucci Fall Winter 2020 men’s collection will unfold in a curious location. Palazzo Delle Scintille—‘Sparks Palace’—was originally a velodrome, its dome roof destroyed by bombing in World War II, rebuilt to later host Milan’s auto and nautical trade fairs. Defined by its late Art Nouveau architectural style, the vast ceilings are criss-crossed with iron beams, the vast elliptical shaped space that can host 18,000 people was recently restored to its former glory. Originally designed in 1923 by architect Paolo Vietti Violi, Palazzo delle Scintille—which translates to Sparks Palace—was the first building in the Fiera Milano exhibition district. The show marks the House’s return to the Milan men’s fashion calendar, and the Creative Director’s fifth anniversary.
