A special dinner to celebrate
Black History Month
Beverly Hills Head Chef Mattia Agazzi and Chef Kwame Onwuachi came together for a menu that marries Afro-Caribbean and Italian cuisines.
In honor of Black History Month, Gucci hosted a one-night-only, collaborative dinner - the first of its kind to take place at Gucci Osteria Beverly Hills. Over the course of the evening, guests undertook a unique culinary journey, one that symbolizes the cultural convergence of two cuisines and celebrates diversity through the shared experience of food.
At the helm of this collaboration lie Gucci Osteria Beverly Hills Head Chef Mattia Agazzi and Chef Kwame Onwuachi of Tatiana restaurant in New York, who, through a thought-provoking 6-course tasting menu, proposed Chef Kwame’s Afro-Caribbean interpretation of Chef Mattia’s signature California-inspired Italian cuisine.
New York native Kwame Onwuachi is an award-winning chef and author who draws inspiration from his Afro-Caribbean-by-way-of-the-Bronx heritage in his culturally significant, imaginative dishes that call on the flavors, aromas, and textures of his childhood.
In coming together to ideate their influential menu for the event, Chef Mattia offers “Chef Kwame’s approach to food has been a long-time inspiration to me, and so it was an honor to invite him into the restaurant as a first-ever collaborator of the sort.” Chef Kwame adds “I'm very excited to collaborate with Chef Mattia and Gucci in honor of such incredible organizations. This menu is special because it highlights Afro-Caribbean ingredients, married with Italian techniques and influences.”
The event took place on February 22nd and was one of two events that both chefs had co-hosted in honor of Black History Month. As part of Gucci’s 4th annual collaboration with the NAACP, Gucci Osteria also hosted a private luncheon to celebrate the organization’s 54th Annual NAACP Image Awards in Los Angeles.

For the occasion, Gucci provided donations to two charities: Hollywood Food Coalition in Los Angeles chosen by Chef Mattia, and No Kid Hungry, chosen by Chef Kwame.
