Gucci's online space Vault, envisioned by Alessandro Michele, has been expanded into a real space for the first time. It will appear as a limited-time shop in Tokyo and Osaka. In addition to the Palace Gucci collection, a collaboration with London streetwear brand Palace Skateboards, and a limited-edition capsule collection by contemporary brands, this special space will also feature the unique two collaborations will be developed that reflect the philosophy of the one-of-a-kind space called Vault in an exclusive Japanese creation.
Firstly, a one-of-a-kind Japan-exclusive collection of Gucci Décor's Richard Ginori porcelains to which traditional Japanese techniques of kintsugi were applied. Tableware with parts cracked or chipped while being used in Gucci Osteria has been recreated with a new beauty. The Japanese culture of cherishing and valuing something loved for a long time merges with the creative world of Vault which explores valuable and attractive things transcending time and space. Items with kintsugi were created by Hakuichi craftsmen who have inherited these traditional techniques.
The second one is a curated collection of one-of-a-kind items reconditioned by in-house artisans, and hand-painted by Japanese artist Yuko Higuchi. Flowers and motifs, and unique and playful animals painted by the artist, who has collaborated with Gucci for many years, emphasize the allure of these one-of-a-kind vintage pieces and inspire dreamy dialogue beyond time and space. A curated collection of one-of-a-kind items reconditioned by in-house artisans, and hand-painted by Japanese artist Yuko Higuchi.
Yuko talked about this collection like this; “For the first time, it was scary that paint on Gucci’s rare vintage items, but once I started drawing, I feel very happy. After finishing, they became my precious. It is an honor to imagine someone who chooses this collaboration and use.”
A dynamic and free creative space shaped and defined by experimentation and open to constant reinterpretation, Gucci Vault is the perfect environment to unveil this exceptional meeting and melding of approaches - a framework where past, present, and future can harmoniously collide. The Vault's unique Japanese creations will allow you to enjoy the world of the Vault even more deeply.
